As with anything in life, you must learn to the rules of the game before playing. This is especially true when it comes to purchasing a baseball bat. Pay close attention to the rules regarding the type of material and barrel circumference that your league has set up or you may face ejection. Oftentimes your coach or other league official will be able to help you with the rules regarding bat weight and height rations. An important caveat to note is that most leagues do not allow corked bats outside of practice.

You can be sure about which bat to buy by seeing the print on the packaging of the bat. It may contain sentences like, "Approved for such and such leagues". Such bats fulfill your needs and restrictions.

The price of baseball bats range from $20 to $500. It's not the price that determines the quality of the bat, i.e., an expensive bat may not be an especially good one. Just find a bat that fits your strengths and weaknesses and practice regularly.

The modern bats may have thin walls, good wood and perfect formation that may make a ball soar high. But the same bats have their disadvantages also and are prone to fractures and dents easily. So it does not mean one will fare well with the modern version bats. And the best example for this is Babe Ruth who scored lot of runs with old fashioned bats only.

If you are practicing regularly in a batting cage metal bats are more suitable for you. The metal bats have more withstanding power than the normal wooden bats and they can withstand the hard and fast pitch of the batting cage. Moreover modern bats are filled with either nitrogen or helium gas so as to provide the "Trampoline effect" which makes the ball bounce from the bat easily and hence to travel large distance.

You can choose any bat of your choice as their is no tested criteria for choosing a bat. For this, you should browse through a variety of stores and bats. The ideal bat is a bat that feels like there is no bat at all. You should be able to swing the bat freely.

Do not choose a bat that will last long. A particular bat should satisfy the need of the particular season only. For children do not let them get used to a particular bat. It is more important that you should feel the bat as a part of you. This will allow you to get an improved swing.
