We all knows how it feels to overdo a work-out session at the gym and end up with an aching body. Especially when your new to working out it might take a while before you find the right weights for your body. This soreness in the muscles doesn't make you unable to move, but it is experienced as a dull pain together with tightness and a loss of strength that can be pretty uncomfortable. What happens on a cellular level is that the fibers in the muscle are being torn, which causes the muscle cell to release content. The cell content attracts inflammatory cells and they release chemicals that irritate the nerve fibers and causes pain. It's always best to not work out harder than your body can handle, but if the sore muscles are a fact, there are a few things that can make the pain go away faster. A stretch after your work out is essential to lower the risk of muscle soreness. This makes the blood and lymphatic circulation flow with more ease, which prevents tightness and stiffness in the muscles. A massage is a great way of getting the circulation in that specific body part going and makes it easier to flush the inflammatory cells. Do it slowly, start softly and increase the pressure a little bit at a time. A hot bath can also be helpful, as well as spending some time in a sauna. The warmth makes the circulation more efficient and makes the healing process faster. It's also a good idea to do some type of light exercise, such as walking or swimming to prevent stiffness in the muscles and also to get the circulation going. It's also important to give your body a good warm up before your weight lifting. This makes the blood flow and the muscles will more efficiently respond to the activity without being torn and create pain. Let the sore muscles be your guidance and make the next session a lighter one. By working out to hard you don't build your muscles quicker, instead you gain soreness and your muscles will get tired and in time the muscle growth process will actually slow down. So be gentle to your body and give it what it needs and the results can come.
