This is where all of the pleading and begging will come in for you to begin soccer coaching for your child's team. While it might sound like a piece of cake, if you do not know anything about soccer or how to coach it, you might be in a bit of trouble.

Once you have taken on the position of the coach, you might want to do some research about the rules, especially if you have never played soccer. Although you will get some information as soon as you accept, you might still want to look for your own research because soccer is not the easiest game to understand.

Soccer is not a hard game to understand but you, as the coach need to come up with positions for your child, a defense system and you really need to know what is allowed and what is not. One of the first things that you need to take into consideration is going to be the age of the team that you are coaching; this will really help you to understand the game a little bit better. Generally, your child will have to be at least seven years old in order to be on a soccer team simply because it can be dangerous.

Formations and positions are two things that are very important in soccer, after all, they are the glue that holds the game together. Learning about the formations as well as the positions is extremely important as this is how you are going to line up your defense. Some of the soccer positions include midfielder, forward, keeper and defender.

The 4-4-2 is probably the most common, most often used formation. What it basically means is that four defenders, four midfielders, and then two forwards. The eleventh position goes to the goalie, or keeper.

One of the main reasons why this formation is so popular is because it gives an overall good balance of your team when they are in the game. You will definitely want to teach your team what all of these positions are and you want to give your team an opportunity to play each and every position. You will however, have to decide who is best for what position, that way you can make sure that you are gaining a very competitive and winning team.

Although formations are important, it is definitely important for you to give your team some tactics, drills and skills. These are things that you are going to have to do with your team.

Perhaps the most vital skills your players can learn involves shooting the ball, passing it, dribbling it, and making sure they have a good defensive line. A lot of the other skills they will need they will actually learn while they are playing. Again, the best way to help them learn what they need to know is to set up drills for them. Let them play against each other before they ever play against another team. Make sure, again, that every child on the team practices all of these skills. They will be invaluable. They will also be essential for a winning season.
