Lewis Hamilton is one of the most well known Formula One Championship drivers in the world today. Hamilton initially took up car racing at a very young age as a hobby but soon started chalking up wins in his home town Stevenage. His first significant win came at the age of 10 years when he became the youngest winner of the British Cadet Kart Championships.

From that point, it was trophies and more trophies for the young Hamilton. It was not long before Ron Dennis then one of McLaren's drivers noticed the young lad. So at the age of 13, Hamilton's unique racing style saw him signed onto McLaren's young driver programme in 1988. Ron Dennis demonstrated remarkable foresight by ensuring the Hamilton's contract included a clause that provided for when (if ever) he would break into the main Formula 1 circuit.

As a sound and well-established racing team, it was McLaren's financial resources that propelled Hamilton to the next level by enabling him to compete in many and larger competitions. Hamilton was now not only winning titles in the UK but in the European karting circuit as well. At the age of fifteen, Hamilton added yet another record to his burgeoning list of credentials - he was crowned the youngest ever karting number one, a record that stands to this day.

Things progressed rapidly as Hamilton's exceptional racing talent catapulted him to even greater levels of prominence. Inundated with numerous offers to race in other series, he eventually settled for the British Formula One Renault series in 2002. He finished an impressive third in his debut season. Lewis Hamilton went one better a year later when he took the crown with a record breaking ten wins, eleven pole positions and nine quickest laps.

Hamilton moved on to the F3 Euro series finishing in fifth place during his debut season but executing a rapid recovery the following season by winning the title. At this point, he was racing with the ASM, a team that dominated the series even before his arrival. However, Hamilton stamped his presence with a scorching 15 wins during the season.

His next stop was GP2 in 2006. Lewis left the competition and his more experienced team mates dazzled in his wake with several memorable performances that season. That he outraced the seasoned Alexandre Premat and the fast rising Nelson Piquet Jr only added to the weight of his season victory. By this time, the Formula One circuit had taken notice. If there was any doubt about Lewis Hamilton's skill, it was finally erased.

Next, McLaren took an unprecedented step. Already with a young, winning, world class driver in the form of Fernando Alonso, McLaren decided to pair Alonso with Lewis Hamilton in the 2007 season. It was a resounding success. Hamilton won 4 Grand Prix races in his first season and pushed Alonso to the wire for the driver's championship. The following year Lewis Hamilton would take the championship beating Felipe Massa by a single point.
