So many of the motorcycle riders suffer from the delusion that they do not need to wear a helmet. But with what happens in a crash and could happen to your head it is real stupid not to wear a helmet. We have only been given one head and it is not replaceable so we better take good care of that. Helmets facilitate us taking care of our heads in case of an accident on a motorcycle. Do you really want to take a chance of your head getting bashed in?

If we just talk about the term skid lid as defined as a crash helmet than you can find many numerous brands and models of helmets. Some people prefer the full-face full head coverage of the full-face helmet. Some bikers would rather have the more open model actually called the open face. These do have high safety ratings from the DOT and Snell. Motocross helmets also have the safety approval from these organizations. There also made for the specific use of motocross. Now if you are just going to put on a show and go at very low speeds there is a helmet called novelty helmet that does not have safety ratings.

The 1800's is when it is believed that the first helmets came into being for use by the bicyclists. These were riders of the high wheel bicycles. They were receiving head injuries, which made them find a solution. They took pith and made helmets. It was perhaps the most favorable material of the day even though pith did smash. With no cars zooming around back then though the bicycle riders only had to be protected from thumping on the ground when they fell. With the cars of today to be concerned it is a good thing helmets are made from other things.

Did you ever wonder how much enjoyment people get from riding motorcycles? There are many explanations for motorcycle riders to find pleasure in riding motorcycles. Some say it is feeling one with their surroundings some say it is just a great way to relax and feel free. Many bikers join groups for the company of riding with others. Sometimes these groups work together on charitable drives. Then you always have the brand name clubs that like to travel together.

If you don't have a lot of money you may consider a motorcycle over a car for transportation. They are cheaper to buy and to operate than cars. Motorcycles for the most part get far better mileage gas wise than most cars too. Which with the gas prices inflating so much today that is important. How many more people are going to ride motorcycles now?

The real daredevils of the motorcycle world love to do motocross. These daredevils are smart enough to know they have to be outfitted right which includes a motocross helmet or skid lid specially designed for the sport. On motocross you even have ramps that you travel on and sometimes jump and flip with. Yes I would say motocross riders absolutely positively should wear a helmet.

The bigger consensus is that everybody should wear their helmets when operating any kind of motorcycle on the street or on the track. It doesn't matter what you call it a skid lid or helmet you will find a great selection in your local stores to suit you. The main thing as when you grab your bike and started up you should also have your helmet on for safety.
