A child suffering from aspergers may seem obsessive with only one or two interests. This child probably reads books on the subject and show little interest in discussing other topics. These children often have unique interests in weather reports, sports statistics, or particular animals among other strange things. This may seem eccentric but can be turned into a career. People with Aspergers, for example, often do well as college professors, computer programmers or scientists. One other symptom of aspergers is a preoccupation with a certain interest.

A child with Asperger's won't want to take part in the role play or imaginative play that is typical of most children. Most kids naturally enjoy pretending they are someone else, dressing up in costumes or playing games that involve playing various roles, but kids with Aspergers have trouble understanding this kind of play. This makes it difficult for these children to relate to others, especially those their own age. This leads to other kids thinking the child with Asperger's is unfriendly or dull. Because these children are wired differently, you need to recognize the symptoms and not expect them to act like everyone else because they do have their own interests.

One of the most common symptoms of Aspergers is not being able to play normally with other children. Groups of children in school or a park will usually form friendships and organize games. Unlike children with other kinds of autism, who will usually stay by themselves, those with Aspergers often reach out to others awkwardly or in ways that seem odd. For example, the child may enter a game without asking permission and not follow the rules. This will make social interaction hard, as other children will tend to react negatively to this kind of behavior. Children with Aspergers can also become the victims of bullying. Difficulty interacting with kids their own age is one of the most common Aspergers symptoms in children.

Kids with Aspergers are often quite intelligent, but they still may have academic problems when they go to school. Their problem has to do with concentration, since they are often able to do very well in their favorite subjects. Many kids will do better in a subject they like than one they don't, but the child with Aspergers may do very well in one subject and make no effort at all in another. It's not uncommon for children with Aspergers to have very good grades in one subject and very poor grades in another. In school, teachers may find that the child seems to ignore rules or has a hard time solving certain kinds of simple problems. This is true of many kids with Aspergers, though having problems with concentration can also be caused by many other problems as well. The more you are knowledgeable of Aspergers syndrome, the more you'll be able to collaborate with kids in your life who have this disorder. These days it is becoming simpler to spot and take care of these children, and they can more easily live fairly normal lives. If you presume that your child has manifestations of Aspergers, the vital thing is to become aware of how to communicate effectively with them, so don't dilly-dally in your search for the help you might require.
