When it comes to anti ageing skin care, women and increasingly men are looking for an instance fix to take the years from their faces. This is why the skin care industry is a multi-million pound industry as people try the non surgical facelift route to a younger looking skin. The problem is that when you decide to do something about it, you have left it too long and you are always trying to remedy the damage. To have younger looking skin you need to start young so tell your daughters and sons to start now.

The sun, although beneficial to health, is one of the biggest causes of skin ageing. People tend to be quite good at putting on high factor sun screen when they are on the beach but this is not the full story. When the sky is blue, you are mainly protecting yourself from the UV-A rays but it is when the sky is cloudy that the damage is done because the clouds filter out the UV-A rays but cannot filter the UV-B rays which are the real villains and are a major cause for skin ageing. You will realise that these are affecting you every time you go out doors every day of the year.

So, unless you had a very knowledgeable mum, you have been affected by these ageing rays since the day you were born. In the school playground, out playing and now when you go shopping or go to work these rays are slowly ageing your skin. To be protected, you need to be wearing sun blocker at all times, not only on your face but also your neck and hands which are the most overlooked area. It would be a good idea to substitute your usual moisturiser for a good sun screen cream.

When it comes to anti ageing skin care, there have been many creams and potions that have been advertised by people in white coats in a laboratory to suggest that science can't be wrong and that this particular cream or that lotion can act as a non surgical facelift and will magically take years off your face, but can you really trust the hype?

Can we really trust them though? It would appear that they may be stretching the truth a little, and the fact that the Advertising Standards Agency have had a couple of these adverts removed would seem so. Many of the new ingredients are in fact, quite old but have just not been used in skin cream before. Luckily this history means that the chemicals ought to be safe to use when it comes to a non surgical facelift. The new preparation is then tried out on some willing volunteers and if the results are half reasonable, they are on to a winner.

A typical type of ingredient is one that goes by the name of Retinol which is actually vitamin A. This has been known and used by the medical profession in the treatment of skin problems. It is used in a quite high dosage, which means it is only available on prescription from a doctor. The amount of Retinol you will find in any preparations you can buy, are going to be relatively small and therefore the effects will match. This doesn't mean that you may not derive some benefit from using it but you may be better off spending your money in food that is rich in vitamin A.

As with many of these preparations, there is a time aspect to them. The ingredients used are degraded by contact with the air and water. This means that as soon as the preparation is manufactured it begins to decay. This wouldn't be a problem if there was some kind of time stamp on the bottle so that you know when it was made or when it ceases to be effective because when you buy it, you do not know how long it has been sitting in the shop. Also, once you have opened the pot, it starts to degrade even more quickly so how you store it can be quite important.

Given that most of these preparations tend to be quite expensive and there is often not a lot in the jar, you may wish to consider making your own. The base can be an inexpensive moisturising cream which helps to take the other ingredients into the skin. There are many different recipes for anti ageing skin cream available and it shouldn't be too difficult to find the other constituents. When preparing your skin cream, you have to be very hygienic in all you do. Only prepare small amounts of the cream to ensure it remains fresh. As different preparations work on different types of skin you will probably have to do some experimentation until you find the one that is just right for you. When you do find the right combination, you will not only have great looking skin but you will have saved yourself a considerable amount of money.
