There are no regulations provided by the Federal government for San antonio Water Damage Restoration. Companies generally follow the guidelines provided by RIA and IICRC. Incase of flooding and water damage to your property, you will have to contact a restoration company in order to return your home to its prior condition. The process for returning the property to its previous condition does not vary much from company to company.

State, local and Federal law stipulate who can perform water damage restoration services. Keep in mind that there may be times when the company may have to set the guidelines aside in order to get the desired results.

Guidelines and steps need to be followed during the restoration process.

Documenting all items that have been damaged is a must. These items may need to be replaced or, if possible, fixed in order to get them back to the original condition. If restoring the furnishings is going to cost more than it is worth, it will be replaced.

Inspect the area that is affected or believed to be affected. The company will locate the source of the water with equipment specifically meant for this process. Once the entire affected area is identified, the first step is to dry it. Then, it will need to be sanitized and deodorized. Dehumidifiers, giant fans, air scrubbers and some other drying tools will more than likely be left at the home when the labor part is complete. The company will come back to the home within two or three days to reevaluate the cleanup effort. At this time, if everything went right, the equipment will probably be removed.

The amount of contamination in the water will decide which of the three categories the damage will come under.

- If the water is free of pollutants, Category 1 is where it falls. - Minor pollution that may cause illnesses or mild discomfort is a Category 2. - Severe pollution that may result in death or sickness is a Category 3.

Companies who perform the service will have to work around the furnishings in the home. If the company has to move furnishings around, they will probably charge you for it. If possible, move anything not damaged, out of the area yourself.

Do not be timid about questions you may have.

The job is done when the levels of moisture, temperature and humidity reach an acceptable level.

Carelessness is not okay. To stay on top of the company, know the guidelines. If they are not, it is okay to ask why they are doing it different.
