There are different things that may be wrong and cause the unit to keep running. A few of the things that can cause the issues may need a plumber to fix but other things can be simple do it yourself projects. Troubleshooting the issue is where a person can identify the extent of the problem.

The first step in the process is to remove the cover of the tank and flush. By doing this a person will be able to see the way the unit works when it is flushed. Make sure to look at the process a few times to check for any problems that may happen on separate flushes.

There are a couple of things to look at during this inspection process. The first thing to check is the chain that runs from the flush lever to the flapper. Next would be the flapper at the bottom of the tank that lifts up to allow water into the toilet.

While flushing check the chain that is connected to the flush lever. Look for anyplace that it may be getting tangled while flushing. It is common for this chain to kink up or wrap around the flapper. If that is the case just fix that issue and try to flush it again. There is also a chance that the tension may be too tight on the chain and that can be fixed by moving the hook attached to it down a few links to lessen the tension. Either of these things may fix the problem.

There is a chance that the problem may be the flapper not sealing correctly. If this is the case push down on the flapper to see if it will properly seal. There may also be a problem with the piece being worn out and needing replacement. If this is the case turn the water off at the wall and flush unit to remove all water. Then unsnap the flapper from the chain and take to hardware store to find replacement. Once back with replacement place back into position and attach chain. After this is complete turn the water back on and flush toilet several times to see if problem is fixed.

These items may help fix toilet problems that occur. It is important to look at the flushing mechanism to see if any problems stand out. Doing these types of repairs helps same a person money and time.
