Carpet cleaning can be a chore, but there are some methods that are easier than others. Along with the variety of methods comes a variety of machines too. Many machines don't have to be purchased, renting one for an hour or so is also an option. The information included in this article should be helpful in choosing which method is best for you.

Foam - This method will include renting or buying a machine. The carpet cleaner used for the foam method has brushes on the wand. These brushes work foam into the carpet, small amounts at a time. When the foam has dried completely, it is then vacuumed up with a household vacuum cleaner. The drying time for this foam method is about two hours.

Shampoo Cleaning - This is one of the original processes used to clean carpets. It is similar to the foam method; a machine can be purchase or rented and it has bristles to scrub the carpet with.

These are both mixed as they come out of the wand. The carpet is squirted with solution, the bristles on the wand work it into the carpet, then it is sucked back out. Once the water going from the carpet to the reservoir begins to become clear, that area of the carpet is clean. It will take many times to get high traffic areas clean.

Bonnet - This process is achieved with a machine similar to a buffer. There is a bonnet placed on the end of the buffer and the carpet is cleaned with this bonnet in a circular motion. The bonnet is dipped in a cleaning solution before placing it on the base of the buffer. After the bonnet has been ran over the carpet, it will start to get dirty. Once it is too dirty to continue, rinse it out, dip in solution again and continue. The drying time for this process is about 30 minutes.

Dry Formula - There are many professionals who use this dry formula method. It saves from having to wait for the carpet to dry before setting the furniture back. This method takes place in three parts. There is a solvent sprinkled onto the carpet first, this must be left on for around 15 minutes. Next, a machine with dual-rotating heads is used to grind the powder into the carpet. The final step to this dry formula cleaning is to vacuum the powder out of the carpet.

Steam Process - Steam cleaning is another process used by many professionals. This method is used for deep cleaning a carpet. It really doesn't involve the use of steam, but hot water instead. The hot water is squirted onto the carpet, using a special wand, then extracted with the same wand.

There is hosing attached to the wand and it is usually clear so the water color can be viewed. When the water becomes clear, this usually means the carpet is clean. The strong suction of steam cleaner machines today shortens the drying time of the carpet a lot.

Before beginning the carpet cleaning process, it is beneficial to vacuum all the carpet area to be cleaned. This will get a lot of the loose dirt out and save cleaning time. It is also easier to remove all furniture from the areas to be cleaned, whether they are being cleaned professionally or with a home machine.
