Baptism and Christening

Baptism and Christening

The gifts you give for the child's Baptism and Christening will not be too different. Usually Baptism and Christening fall within a few years, sometimes a few days of each other so that the type of gifts you give for both occasions will differ only with regards to the size for clothing.

Young infants

For infants you might give little baby dresses. Or little snap suits and other apparel that the baby can wear at home. If you are the baby's sponsor at Baptism you could send an advanced gift consisting of a Baptism suite for boys or a gown for girls. In some places, gender distinction will only be appropriate for older infants. Infants of a few weeks old usually all wear Baptism gowns.

Another gift idea are those beautifully designed picture frames. You don't have to have them specially designed with Baptism or Christening-specific motifs.

Baby rattles made of plastic or silver and engraved or embossed with Baptism and Christening motifs are said to be excellent ways of driving away bad influence and attracting benevolent forces to the baby.

There are beautiful baby's clothes which feature button bells or caps with tiny bells attached to their top.

Children

You may already give bracelets and other pieces of jewelry to children who are old enough to know that such things are not to be eaten. Otherwise those types of gifts are health hazards.

You could select those, which are strung with bright crystals conforming to the color of the baby's birthstone. Otherwise, you could also give simple silver jewelry with pendants engraved with the child's initials.

Besides being embellishments on the jewelry, pendants and bangles may serve functional purposes too. The name and home address of the child may be engraved or embossed on them. These will then serve as identification tags of a sort. People will know how to contact the child's parents in case that becomes necessary.

Identification jewelry are very charming to wear even after the child has grown into an adult. They can always become good conversation topics.

For those children who are able to read already, illustrated and simplified versions of Biblical stores are some other great things to give for Baptism and Christening. Along the same vein, you can purchase illustrated lives of the saints.

Baptism, Christening and Communion gifts for older children

For the First Holy Communion of the child, rosaries are appropriate gifts. There are many types of rosaries you can buy from religious store whether live or on the Internet. Some are made of plastic. Others are made of plain or fragrant wood. You can also find rosaries, which are made of crystals. There are affordable but beautiful crystal rosaries.

You should definitely gift the child with some kind of prayer book. This could be an anthology of simple prayers or a simplified version of the Bible.

Handkerchiefs, children's table napkins, clothes and the like may also be given for Baptisms.

Baptism, Christening and Communion deserve celebration

Baptism, Christening and Communion should also be occasions for celebration. The importance of those three moments for the child's spiritual development should be stressed by holding festivities. These need not be overly extravagant. The important thing to have is a beautiful cake with the appropriate wordings traced on it.
