Know an expecting mother? Wondering what you should give her? This article discusses a few of the advantages and disadvantages of certain gifts. These gifts range from baby onesies to pacifiers.

Diapers - Most people's initial reaction to buying diapers as a gift is a negative one. Who would want diaper's as a gift? Well it turns out that these plastic made contraptions are more expensive than they look and having them is a necessity. If the expecting mother is a practical person, think about giving them diapers. You may be surprised by the outcome.

Formula - I would definitely put a red flag on this gift, at least in certain situations. Many doctors say that breast milk is much better for babies than formula. So it would be best to ask the soon-to-be mother if she plans on feeding her baby formula right from the start. That being said, certain situation exist where formula might be a nice gift.

Diapers - As a recent parent who received diapers at a baby shower I can tell you that initially I was a little let down. However, when I went to the grocery store to buy diapers for my son and saw how much they cost, I thought very highly of my wise friend. Diapers are practical gifts.

Baby Onesies - These could fall under the baby clothes category. Baby onesies are those one-piece bodysuits that most babies are wearing. These are a great gift and most onesies are relatively inexpensive.

One of my personal favorites about baby onesies is the snaps on the bottom of them. Nobody likes changing diapers, but it is even harder to change diapers if you have to take off the baby's pants every time he/she needs changed. You can simply unsnap the bottom and you'll have instant access to the diaper.

Another advantage of buying a baby onesie or two is that they have several uses. If a mother wants to dress her baby using the onesie as a shirt and then have a separate pair of pants, that's great! Or if the mother feels like letting the baby expose some more skin, then she can dress her baby in just the baby onesie.

In summary remember that there are advantages and disadvantages to every gift. If all else fails, you can feign sickness and hope they forget that you never gave them a baby gift.
