Colours are an amazing thing, very few things can draw feelings or have associations with it. That's why its important to be careful when picking colours for your scrapbook.

Picking Colours For Events

Events constantly have colours linked with them. Thinking about St Patrick's Day or Halloween, it isn't hard to recognize what colours these holidays are associated with.

But there are also other life events that colours get connected with like weddings or graduations.

As an example, in several schools and universities students wear a black gown when they graduate. Usually these gowns have a second colour associated with it that shows which faculty or school the student belongs to.

These should be things to think about if you are working on an event based scrapbook such as a marriage or high school scrapbook.

Moods

Colour can influence moods. Brighter colours are customarily associated with stronger emotions, while darker colours usually represent the calmer, more refined states of mind.

Red is an excellent example. Red is the colour of passion, fury and love. All powerful feelings that will drastically effect how someone acts or reacts.

On the opposite end of the range we have blue, the colour of relaxation, deep thought and somberness. Blue typically is used to help people relax and regularly has a calming effect. The darker the blue, the more relaxing it feels.

Colours In Other Cultures

You should also consider the cultural background of your intended audience when picking colours.

If you were to make a wedding album, you would naturally be using a large amount of different shades of white. To a westerner this is the colour of the brides dress and symbolizes innocence and pureness.

However, if this was meant to for a Chinese or Japanese audience, it would actually represent mourning and loss - something you definitely would not wish to be associated with a wedding.

It usually pays to do your preperation when you are making an album for folk of a different cultural background.

So there are a few points to consider when you are thinking about colours for your next album.
