Arranging flowers can bring so much happiness and joy to a home. There is an arrangement for every occasion under the sun. Any young man involved in a courtship knows that flowers are romantic. They mark the passing of seasons with the Easter Lilly and tulips in spring, poinsettias for winter, and tall sunflowers in summer. We love our blooms as centerpieces with the holidays or anytime. They really brighten up the place and the sweet smells remind us of the time of year.

Arranging your own blooms can be a rewarding experience. All you really need are a few inexpensive tools and a desire to learn. Normally you think of the green foam and flower tape as regular tools of the trade. These items work well to hold up your arrangements.

Many people don't have those items on hand but you can make do with other things from around the house. You can use egg cartons and styrofoam cups instead of the foam. Just poke a few holes in them and turn upside down and place the stems inside the holes. Instead of flower tape just about any old tape from your kitchen drawer will do. Don't use cellophane tape though as it doesn't hold up well in moisture. Electrical tape and masking tape work very well or you can just use some string or wire to hold the blooms in place.

A good idea when making arrangements is to use tin foil wrapped around the flower foam. This holds the water in with the blooms and allows you the freedom to choose unusual or unconventional containers. A good example might be a wicker basket. Use your imagination with this trick.

Don't underestimate the power of just one flower. One single rose blossom can say so much. Add a little babies breath and you have the perfect touch. There is no need to overdress flowers. They are naturally beautiful eye candy. Let the blossoms do the talking. You might want to have a lot of blossoms or just a few depending on the look you want.

When choosing your blooms keep colors in mind. It is important for the colors of the blossoms to compliment each other. If you are not familiar with complimenting colors you can easily look them up on the Internet. Also consider which colors compliment the colors in the room that they will be in. Always use a little green, add some green leaves or sprigs. Green naturally compliments all blossoms just like in a beautiful garden.

When you are cutting your blooms for the arrangement remember to cut some of the stems longer and some shorter. This way you can have some of your blooms taller in the back or middle of your arrangement. The smaller stems can go in front and around the edges. This makes your arrangement more shapely and interesting.

Remember to have fun while making your arrangements and enjoy the flowers. Don't try to be too artistic, just let it come naturally. With a little patience and practice you will be making lovely arrangements for your home and as gifts for your loved ones and friends.
