The Celtic people had a rich and very deep culture that was closely connected with the earth, nature and the world around them. Thus has lead to many beautiful myths, legends and great lore that people fall in love with even today. They ascribed meaning and stories to everything in nature and this symbolism has carried through to the world of tattoos. Today Celtic butterfly tattoo designs are very popular for women and even some men.

One of the most famous legends of the Celtic people was the Legend of Etain. This story features love, magic, betrayal and butterflies play a major role. This story is essentially about a king that was a married man. However, he fell in love with this beautiful young princess named Etain. He tried hard to win her affection and his wife the Queen found out what he was doing. She became jealous of the competition and she therefore casted a spell upon Etain and turns her into a butterfly. The queen is then able to simply blow the butterfly (Etain) away. Etain lives her life as a butterfly for years. Then one day she fell in the wine bottle of another queen. The queen drank the wine not knowing that a butterfly was stuck inside of it. Then the Queen gave birth to Etain as a lady and she is then able to marry the High King.

Celtic Butterfly Symbolism The Celtic people lived very close to nature and had many beliefs, legends and symbolism for many natural elements. They believed that the butterfly symbolized rebirth and transformation. They also believed that butterflies had souls and when they accidentally became eaten by a female they would impregnate the female and be born as a human.

The placement of a tattoo is always important and where you choose can really make a difference in how the tattoo design is done etc. Women tend to prefer lower back tattoo designs and the butterfly works great in this area because of it's shape. However there are many other options available and what you choose should be a personal matter for you to decide. Some of the other common places include a foot tattoo, ankle tattoo and hip tattoos.

Choosing a butterfly tattoo design comes down to making a few strategic choices. Such as the placement, size, color and designs for the tattoo. Most of these are matters of personal choice since it will be your own tattoo you should never let anyone tell you what to do. One of the major considerations that all people have to choose between is stock flash designs or custom work. Of course choosing a stock design is much cheaper and quicker. However other people are likely to have the same design. If you want something really unique and individual to you then you will have to pay for some custom artwork to be drawn.
