You may have been teased, or maybe just ignored. You may not have wanted them to pay attention to you. You may have alienated yourself on purpose. Maybe your family doesn't even understand you. Being a Goth can be lonely. But more Gothics have found each other online than you probably think.

If you identify with the Goth subculture, you have probable felt somewhat isolated from the mainstream social scene. At school, you did not fit in with the cheerleaders and the football players. You may have been teased, or maybe just ignored. You may not have wanted them to pay attention to you. You may have alienated yourself on purpose. Maybe your family doesn't even understand you. Being a Goth can be lonely. But more Gothics have found each other online than you probably think.

Your feelings of isolation and your past experiences may have made it difficult for you to date in the traditional way, or even to make friends. People in the mainstream often meet each other in bars or clubs. But for you, the idea of grinding the night away with a stranger to the sounds of Beyonce' sounds like torture, and not the good kind. Mainstream bars, with their vapid, soulless inhabitants, are the last place that you want to be.

If you are lucky enough to live in a city, there may be a few places around you where you can go to meet other Goths. But if you live in a suburb or a small town, it can be much more difficult. The closest thing to Goth culture might be the Hot Topic at the mall, and that is not going to cut it. You might feel like love is impossible to find.

You want someone you can light candles with at night, and make love during a thunderstorm while The Cure plays in the background. Maybe you want someone who shares your love for leather, and who likes a little BDSM now and then. You want to see the eyeliner smudged around your lover's eyes in the heat of passion.

With online dating, you can say exactly what you are looking for. On a regular dating site, you can let people know up front what you are into. You can post a picture of yourself dressed as elaborately as you want, so that they know exactly what to expect. There are also specific Gothic dating sites, where you would be able to look through pictures of hundreds of dark princes and princesses.

You are not limited to the boring, soulless people around you. There are people all over the world who share your brooding passion, who understand your ennui and your frustration with this meaningless existence.

Dating, in the age of the internet, is much easier for Goths than it was in the 70's and 80's when the subculture emerged. There is no need to feel so isolated and alone. More Gothics have found each other online than you can imagine. Your dark and mysterious lover is out there! It is up to you to go and find them.
