Once you're over World of Warcraft addiction but have decided you still want to play occasionally, you find yourself dealing with a certain disorientation. Why am I in Stormwind? Did I finish my business here? Where should I go next?

Once you're over World of Warcraft addiction but think you still want to play occasionally, you find yourself dealing with a certain disorientation. Why am I in Stormwind? Did I finish whatever brought me here? Where should I go next?

Everyone that has cut back on their World of Warcraft play time deals with the same thing. If you play all the time, you remember what you were doing. But if you play sporadically, spend half of each play session figuring out what you were doing last time and what you should be doing next.

Back in the addicted phase, I considered it cheating to have to resort to sites like thottbot.com and wowhead.com. Now they are my first line of reference. I don't have time to wander around confused. Tell me where it is and what I need to do. Thottbot and wowhead do that. (To be fair, there are other sites that fulfill the same role. Those are just the two I use.)

Even better though, I've found a couple great addons: Questhelper and Carbonite Quest. Both do almost the same thing, so choose between the two. Don't run them at the same time. (I don't think you even could.)

Both keep track of your questlog and guide you through the most efficient path to completing the quests. If all members in a group use the same tool, it will consolidate the quest list and take all the quests into consideration which is a great help in avoiding the, "What should we do next?" discussions that can take up a lot of time.

Both mess up sometimes. But both get it right often enough to make them a great help. Questhelper stands on its own while Carbonite works even better with another addon named Cartographer installed.

Lately I've been using Carbonite instead of Questhelper for one reason. Carbonite shows you the path of where you've been. As someone who is always getting lost in dungeons, I find this feature a great help.

I use the paid version of Carbonite but the free version is a great tool too just without some of the optional features. As far as I know, Questhelper is still free but I think I remember reading that they might have a paid version coming out as well.

From what I've read there are addons that go beyond Questhelper and Carbonite. These |others |provide you guidance on which quests are worth your time. But since I'm the kind that likes to follow story lines through, I haven't looked into them.

Let me know if you have suggestions of more time saving World of Warcraft addons. You can write up a brief review like this one and I'll post it over at myworldofwarcraftaddiction.com or if you'd rather, I'll write them up giving you discovery credit. In writing this I've already thought of a few more I want to tell you about.
