Are you really suffering from insomnia? Or is it really something else like anxiety. You may be amazed to find out that what is keeping you awake at night, those racing thoughts, can be prevented through a good sleep. You wake up in the morning feeling tired and unenergetic which results in you not being able to accomplish your tasks every day. At the end of the day, those unfinished tasks keep you awake and create a vicious cycle.

Stretching before bed!

Everyone stretches out in the morning, but when you chose to stretch a bit before lying down, you are allowing yourself to be more relaxed and therefore are able to become more comfortable in bed. This will help you sleep better.

Clear your mind!

It may not be that easy, but before you even try to go to sleep, you have to make sure that you are able to clear out your mind. This is especially the case when dealing with anxiety because your mind is racing and preventing you from falling asleep.

Find a comfortable position.

Do not start rolling around, once you have found a very comfortable position, do not try to find one that is more comfortable, it is causing you to stay awake. Having a comfortable bed and pillows will make finding this position easier.

Breathing is important.

We all know this, but did you know that if you put forth an effort to not only control your breathing, but also pay attention to how it is done such as feeling the air going in the nose, down the throat and into the lungs then back, you can actually fall asleep quicker.

Drink something warm.

Whether you are going for milk or hot cocoa, drinking something warm before bed will increase your body temperature leaving you more relaxed. As a result sleep will be able to find you a whole lot easier.

Of course there is no substitution for having a great and very comfortable bed. Sometimes all of our sleep related issues can actually be traced to an unsupportive or even dirty mattress. This might be the case in your sleep related issues as well. So go a head and try these techniques to help you fall asleep at night so you can wake up the next morning well-rested. However if they do not work, you might want to think about getting a new bed or mattress.
