Be prepared for the weather you will be traveling through to get to your destination. Plan an alternative course just in case the weather circumstances become too poor. Utilize the CB and radio to keep up to date on what current weather conditions are.

If your traveling route goes through areas that are prone to hurricanes, make sure that there is not a current hurricane watch in effect. There should be enough time to alter the path you are taking to avoid this area since hurricanes travel relatively slow.

If a tornado is near never try to outrun it. Leave your truck and find shelter somewhere. If you can not find any shelter, then lie in a ditch or depression until the tornado passes.

During strong wind conditions, be constantly aware of any movement of your trailer. If you find yourself in a thunderstorm remain in your truck. Find a place to park that is away from tall trees and power lines.

When driving in snowy or icy conditions make sure you are cautious when using your brakes. Constant, firm pressure is the best way to use your antilock brakes. Remember that it will take up to twelve times more space for you to stop in these conditions, so always keep plenty of distance from the vehicle in front of you.

When traveling through fog make sure that you use your low beam headlights and fog lights. Slow down your speed before you enter the fog and be careful for any slow moving or stopped vehicles that may be in front of you. See if using your defroster or windshield wipers will help you to see better than without their use.
