If your refrigerator does not match your kitchen, you do not need to buy a new one. You can simply paint your existing refrigerator. What all you need to have is a special paint and a little know- how. You do not need to paint the back of the refrigerator, as it is painted black by the manufacturer. You need to purchase appliance paint that is specially formulated to hold up to heat and cold without cracking and peeling. This type of paint comes in either a spray type, or in a can that you use a brush to apply it with. Once you have the desired paint with you, now comes the time to begin the painting process. Clean the surface of the refrigerator properly and make it free from food stains, grease, smoke, dirt and dust etc., so that the paint sticks to the surface firmly. Look over the surface of the refrigerator for any scratches, nicks or spots of rust. In order to roughen them up so that the paint adheres properly, use fine sandpaper to lightly sand up the stains. The next step is to use painter's masking tape to cover up the handles on the refrigerator. Regular masking tape is much stickier, and therefore it is much more difficult to remove after a paint job. That's why it is best to use the special masking tape for this project. Carefully apply some strips of the tape to the edge of the back of the refrigerator too. This is so when you are painting the sides, the paint won't overspray or otherwise get spattered onto the coils. This is the time to apply the coat of paint on the refrigerator. Apply the first coat evenly. Wait for it to dry. If you feel second coat is also required, then only go for it. Wait for it to dry. After you are done with painting the refrigerator, take off the masking tape from it. Carefully move the refrigerator to its original place. Your task is accomplished in about an hour.
