Decluttering your house is a step towards having a more successful life. When your surroundings are organized and in order, you'll find that your mind will be uncluttered as well. 1. Quit Buying "Stuff". This is probably one of the hardest things to do for people who are in the habit of buying stuff. Just because it's on sale doesn't mean you need it or should go buy it. 2. Stop Procrastinating. Choose one small easy job to do every day. After you've developed this as a new habit, you'll be ready to take on a few bigger projects. If you tackle the smaller jobs, it will make the declutter process a lot easier. If you try to tackle the whole house at once, it will overwhelm you. 3. Stop Hoarding. Collecting stuff and piling it up is obviously no good. Get out of the habit of collecting stuff. If you can end the hoarding madness, you're more than half-way there to declutter heaven. 4. Don't Lose Focus. Set aside 15 minutes a day, something manageable that will keep you consistent. If it's too much time, you'll soon give up, if it's too little, you won't accomplish your goals. Pick a project, start the timer and be disciplined enough to quit when the timer goes off. 5. Throw Away "Stuff". Get in the habit of throwing stuff out. Your reluctance to throw stuff away will only add to your clutter. If your first instinct is to throw it away, do it! Don't try to find a reason why you should keep something. Change this habit and the majority of your decluttering problems will be resolved. 6. Things In Their Place. You may have heard a place for everything and everything in it's place. This is especially true as it relates to decluttering. Prioritize what you want to keep and start finding places for the things on the top of your list and go from there. As soon as you run out of space, throw everything else away. This may seem harsh, but remember that whatever you own ends up owning you. Simplifying your life becomes a lot easier if your environment is clutter-free. Use these simple tips to help you develop a plan that you can stick to. Change the basic habits you have of accumulating junk and these tips will help you stay clutter free forever!
