Blogging is by far one of my favorite online marketing activities for online success. It's a great way for me to share the tons of information I've learned about online marketing.

Blogging is not difficult, but it is easy to make some basic mistakes that will impact your results.

At a minimum, you should try to avoid these 7 common blogging mistakes:

Mistake #1: Your blog is not visually appealing. If your blog is hard to read, your visitors won't stay. You don't need fancy graphics but make sure you have a nice structure to your layout, and use colors and fonts that are easy to read.

Mistake #2: Writing complex, paragraph-long sentences, especially if there is a hidden underlying meaning. Keep your sentences and paragraphs short, and use language that is easy for your target market to understand.

Paragraphs should only be 2-3 sentences long, which may require you to have paragraph breaks at non-standard locations. This will make your blog easier on your readers. Big chunks of text are not easy to read online.

Mistake #3: Writing in a boring, non-conversational style. The best approach is to pretend you are writing to a single person. That person should be your ideal prospect. Pretend you are having a conversation with them, one-on-one. And give your text personality by expressing your opinions.

Mistake #4: Not spell checking your articles before publishing them. Misspelled words are annoying to many people and will make you seem careless and uneducated.

Mistake #5: Writing for search engines, not humans. If you use keywords to get traffic from the search engines, make sure the article still reads well for humans, your ultimate customer. Getting search engine traffic doesn't do you any good if your readers can't follow your writing easily.

Mistake #6: Writing to make money, not because you like the topic. If you are passionate about your topic, it will come across in your writing and your readers will pick up on it.

Mistake #7: Not engaging your readers. Try not to make your blog a one-way dialog with your readers. Try to get your readers involved in discussions. Directly ask them to leave their thoughts and opinions in the comments area. Get them to interact and share their knowledge.

That's my quick list of 7 common blogging mistakes. Avoid these mistakes and create a blog that rocks!
