As you might have surmised, a city colors a wedding in the same way the decorations color the ceremony. So, when it comes to a city like San Jose, you can/t help but be blown away by the spectacle of San Jose wedding receptions and ceremonies alike. When you consider that more and more couples on the peninsula are booking their weddings in San Jose to ensure the weather is not a factor, you can understand how this sunny Bay Area gem has colored many a nuptial day.

Nuptial days have to be planned well in advance, of course. This means it all boils down to the brass tacks of cold, hard cash. Even if the father of the bride is the one shelling out the cash, the bottom line is the bottom line. People want to save money, not spend more than they have to. The best way to do that is planning ahead.

You see, hotels and other venues make their profit by gouging couples who book too soon to their wedding dates. This means two weeks is not going to be enough. You need to book, if possible, at least six months in advance. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I'm speaking from experience. I had the privilege of giving away my daughter this past summer.

I had to kick myself when I realized I had spent far more than I should have. If my daughter and her husband had only started their planning farther in advance, I could have saved as much as $4,000 on the cost of the ceremony and the reception. That was a small fortunate for me.

Now, I'm not saying it wasn't worth the cost, on the contrary -- it was a stunning venue and stunning day. It was well worth every penny. But, again, the key here is not to have to spend more than you need. If you have your sights set on a grand ballroom at a historic hotel in downtown, then you need to get on the ledger as soon as possible. Do the legwork, get squared away and save.
