The Australian Shepherd or simply Aussie, is a medium built with medium length pelt creature. The name may be clearly Australia but in fact, this breed hailed from the glorious Pyrenees Mountains of either Spain or France. In the 1800s, it was introduced in the United States from Australia and that's the reason for its territorial name, however, it is only at this arrival that it began to gain fame and undergo development in breeding. The Aussie is known to be excessively energetic, easily trained, highly intelligent, and has a distinct and naturally strong herding and guarding instinct. Truth is, it is that strongly innate in them that an Aussie who has never been exposed to livestock his whole life will quickly respond to the flock as an expert trafficker. This instinct also overwhelms them most of the time so it is best, if they are not living in a farm or ranch setting, to focus their energy in to another active and useful task. As a working dog, they are trustworthy and work the cattle or livestock with diligence and expertise; herding them masterfully and searching and rescuing lost cattle tediously. As a family pet, they are amiable, trustworthy, fun to hang out with, and extremely loyal; however, they are distrustful with strangers which, can come handy when you are in need of a watch and guard dog. This dog is overly possessive and protective as well that they obviously treat you as a prized property through their endless tailing and tagging all around. Being an intrinsically super-hyper dog, the Aussie have the tendency to be limitless thus running, frolicking, chasing, and endless running again are its natural activities. Neglecting these potentials can be a damaging thing for they will direct this unfocused energy in to unreasonable romping (it may cause damage to properties), obnoxious barking, chewing on things, and others. They may also become hard headed and reckless and will demand time and constant attention from the masters and this can be quite unbearable and annoying at times. The Australian Shepherd breed, being so exuberant in energy, is one of those breeds that need proper behavioral training and obedience training so as to channel their qualities in to a more useful and positive way. They are inherently working dogs and so an active lifestyle must be encouraged for them. They need to be unbounded and must be allowed to play and perform intense physical and mental exercises daily so as to enhance or maintain that spirited disposition in them and to avoid the development of negative behaviors as well. An immobile lifestyle is clearly not suited for them so if by chance their masters are living a not so active life, these dogs should, however, be exempted from this. There must be an effort to free them in to an open field to allow them to chase, romp, and just be active all the way. After the vigorous activity, however, they must be kept limited or secured because the mere sight of a flock of children or animals will stir the natural herding and guiding instinct in them. Aussies, also known by choices of names such as Spanish Shepherd, Pastor Dog, Bob-Tail, Blue Heeler, New Mexican Shepherd, and California Shepherd; are superb dogs and are obviously great companions. For those who have an outgoing and active lifestyle, this dog can unquestionably keep up with the intensity; actually they will utterly love it.
