Dogs look up to you and want to please you. A puppy or youthful dog should start training immediatly. If they start forming bad habits. It will be more difficult to train away these habits.

When you start training enviorment is important. A place where there is little to no distractions can be key. Chaos during a training session can cause the dog to get overly excited and not listen.

Choosing the person who will work with the dog. Pick one person to direct the dog at first. As the dog begins to respond and learn the comands issued. A second person can be added. Make sure that who ever works with the dog is consistent with the traing technques used

A strong and firm voice should be used during training. Show of affection can go a long way to gaining trust and cooperation. Screaming can show a lack of control. It not only causes a fear response but may be detremental to all the work done.

Be patient. Each dog is an individual and will learn at their own pace.

When training your dog consider the breed. There are strong points of each breed of dog. Some may have abilities in agility and others in following comands quickly. Find out what your dog's abilities are and build on them.

Choosig a training method. Some people use food and still others use a clicker. There are other methods available.

Do not try to work on many different behaviors. Focus one one at a time and you will be more sucessful.

The steps I have explained to you will go a long way to a well behaved dog. Love your pet is the most important step of all.
