Did your mom ever warn you about hanging out with unsavory characters? Well, your mother wasn?t trying to ruin your social life. She knew, no matter how strong-willed you were, that your associations had the ability to affect your entire quality of life. Jim Rohn was famous for saying ?You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.? I?m sure you?d agree if you compared your life with the five people you hang out with most. The reason - your thoughts, beliefs, habits, actions, and character are shaped most by the people you spend the most time with. Like Les Brown says, "If you hang around with 9 broke people, chances are you'll be number 10" Evaluate your top five relationships and ask yourself, ?Do I want the same level of health, wealth, and happiness as my friends?? If your relationships are not providing the support and challenge you need to achieve the levels of success you desire in your life, then it may be time for you to make some changes. Here are three choices you can make in your current relationships: Move On ? This decision is very hard to make and should not be taken without careful thought and consideration. If you have a toxic relationship that is threatening to poison your entire life, you want to get out of that relationship as fast as you can. Limit the Relationships. Some relationships re just fun to have. You don?t have to sever ties with someone just because they are not at the level of success you desire. However, you may want to reduce the amount of time you spend with them. You may want to change the topics you discuss with them. For instance, instead of gossiping for hours on end with a certain friend, begin discussing future goals and good things that are happening. Upgrade Your Relationships. Begin to enhance your relationships by spending more time with people that will help you to grow spiritually, emotionally, physically, personally, and professionally. For instance, if you know someone who has the level of success in their marriage that you want, take them out to luch and ask for their advice.
