At the start of every New Year we sit down and think of New year resolution ideas. We often try to change the negative parts of our life that are causing us the most trouble. We often don't think of ourselves, but pleasing the people around us who have told us what disgusting habits we have. A lot of the time when we try to stop habits that have become more about pleasing others than ourselves we do not succeed. If you are a parent then resolutions fitted around your child might be the appropriate direction to go. As long as this is something that you want to change and are not doing it with the sole purpose to please someone else. What you will find is that as you change the way you teach your children other positive changes will take place in your life. The result will be that you are happier in yourself because children are behaving better. Parents can make changes in the way they care for their children. Think of resolutions that will change the way you parent and plan to spend more time with your children. Even if you do not manage to implement those changes within the year you will at least be on the way to working towards them. Be careful when choosing the words to speak to your child and try to praise them more. Start to recognise when your child has done well and reward them. Reward charts can be bought or made and help a child gain a sense of worth. Some parents tell children that they are naughty, stupid or bad all the time and this only makes a child feel worse. Plan to share a physical activity with your child. Go camping or take up a sport together. The benefits are numerous and include, getting fitter, spending more time with children, getting to know your child better and many more. Try to be more patient, calm and creative with your child. You could do hobby activities like making posters or pictures. Allow your child to express themselves with you and value the inner child that you have inside. When you learn to get close to your child the benefits are endless. Try to explain things to your child rather than shouting at them and try to answer their questions in a positive way. This year learn to observe patterns of behaviour within your children and ask yourself if it is something that you are doing. Learn to set an example to your child. Children will commonly learn to act out the behaviour of a parent. Parents that smoke have a higher chance of making their child have the habit when they are older. Weight issues can also arise in children if the occur in parents. Bad habits are often past on from parents to children.
