Last month one of my husband's close business associates got married. For two months before the joyous event I stressed out about what to get them. I racked my brain for an original, unique item that would be a delightful surprise. I wanted our gift to them to represent how happy we were for them.

After going over their registry, and driving from store to store looking at bed sheets, bath towels and tableware, I knew none of these items were right. Then I turned to online shopping, where I found suggestions that were closer, but not quite right. One website suggested a gift basket full of chocolates, and I decided to put my own twist on it and created a one-of-a-kind wine gift basket.

It seemed like the perfect idea. Everyone loves a good bottle of wine, and it sets the right mood for a night of romance! I used a picnic basket and purchased two wine glasses and two bottles of wine. I added a corkscrew and charms for the glasses, when it suddenly occurred to me, "What is wine without cheese?" Into the basket went specialty cheeses and crackers.

It was surprisingly simple to assemble this elegant gift. My husband was very impressed when he saw the basket. He thought I must have spent a small fortune on something so extravagant. He was delighted when I told him this was my own creation. He was ready to finance a gift-basket business of my own! I was very proud of the gift I'd made for our happy couple, and shocked at how simple it was to do.

After the wedding, we became quite close friends with the couple. They told us they had taken my basket along on their honeymoon, and that they hoped to take the picnic basket to the park with their children. It was a nice feeling to know that they appreciated this gift and that they would long enjoy it's use.

I'm planning on making more of these gifts for my friends and family. I don't want to share the news of my new creative enthusiasm, because I want them to see it first hand when I give them a gift basket. Gift baskets are very versatile gifts and quite appropriate for people of any age or life-style. My husband wants me to make him one for our next anniversary, so I'll have to be extremely creative to think of just the right surprise to add!
